Player Name: Steahl
Character Name: Dip Clarke
Identified Gender/pronouns: Male/he/him
Species: Naga
Age: 47 (equivalent to human early 20's)
Basics (IC)
Full Name: Dip Thomas Clarke, my sister likes to call me Dippin Dots, please don't do that unless you get me ice cream.
Family: My father is Thomas Roderic Clarke, he was a doctor in his Majesty's service during the British age of imperialism, and unlike many of the foreign idiots (mom's words) he actually went to help when there was rumor of fevers and possibly plague in a far village in India. Mom, Deepa, was already there and helping, and they bonded over a love of medicine and his desire to properly LEARN more methods than he'd been trained to in London. It took father getting recalled to England due to WWI, a long distance relationship, letters, and him getting himself SHOT to get mom out of India, and then they got married etc etc. Yes, my sister Karishma, I call her Kari or MAAAAAH when I'm annoyed at her (she's Collett's snake!), was born BEFORE they were married, it's not a big deal in mom's culture, dad's head near exploded I'm told though when he woke up in the military hospital and was shown pictures of her. Then she and mom officially became Clarkes!
Friends: I kind of facebook stalk some people I went to school with? It's a problem when you're not obviously forty or fifty like they are though so I just kinda glance at their lives? Some on again off again penpals from the clinic though, Amanda is a mer-something, she came in dehydrated once and we write when we both remember! And there's Tandiss, he's part goat and he taught me Latin through the mail?
Where did you grow up?: My family moves every twenty years, so I was born in Omaha, Nebraska, moved to Cancun, Mexico, and the family home is now in Nepal, India. Mostly Omaha and Cancun.
What was your childhood like?: As most childhoods go it was probably quite nice? I adore my family, they're good people, and my parents have worked the underground clinic circuit since before I was born. That's a loose affiliation of healer and doctor types for the less-than-public community out there, part of why we move so predictably, cycling doctors so no one notices unaging types. I was a surprise in the in many senses; unplanned (they'd been hoping for a hundred years or so between kids), my father had really been hoping for a human when they did catch on, and my mother had hoped I'd get her pipe snake coloring. No dice I came out all black and white barred king cobra, so with my sister that's two poisonous kids for a flexible mom and a man who had to do emergency research on 'can my kid kill other kids if we forget to milk his fangs before school?'. Thankfully I'm too young for a full hood, mom thinks I'll get that when I lose my legs entirely.
Anyway, technically I'm a just over fifty years younger than my sister but she was usually home and I grew up as the annoying kid brother following her around and hissing at boyfriends like a doof, and for a while I had a rep for being able to leave elementary school to go find her at the nearby highschool. It was important we learn to socialize as mom put it though so eventually they tied my butt to a seat in primary and I stuck it out in your usual wave of middling B student and gym notes that kept me and my fragile legs benched during heavier sports.
I think of my whole childhood that's my least favorite part, I was a twitchy thing so if I got surprised I could snap into tail and that wasn't good, especially in Nebraska public schools, so I had to pretend I had the precursor to brittle bone instead of chasing other kids. The most AMUSING school memory was mom having to turn me upside down and shake me daily before going to the bus because I started taking my pearl to classes as show and tell and she was afraid I'd start letting other kids borrow it. To be fair she was probably right, I was really social and enjoying giving people things, through the Pog phase, to trading card games, I passed stuff out! It took dad locking my little bauble in his medical safe for years before I finally got it through my head to keep it safe.
Yes my sister's got locked away too, though hers was taken when she started dating, naturally. We can get swept away by nice smells and warm skin and she had a lot of crushes. To the point my parents considered sending her to mom's home village to grow up, it was almost isolated temple levels there (we visit) and she'd have gone utterly nuts. Not so secretly I think I hissed at most her dates because my dad encouraged it. Sticking to that story!
Anyway, right, school. I switched into Highschool when we moved to Cancun, and also took up homeschooling not only to learn another language but so mom could start stuffing basics in my head for the touch healing that we all get at puberty. Any naga can help others to a degree, it's what we are, so basics for everybody! Unlike with my sister though the lessons took better and I realized I was probably going to go into medical officially so I could do things better than just slapping some racial power on a wound. Kids teased me in highschool because of the doctor's note thing, still, but Mexico was still a lot of fun and the festivals were amazing, so can't really complain! We'd just gotten settled in the clinic home in Nepal when I started looking at colleges even though my parents wanted me to wait a few years but hey, I can go home on holidays!
What are your plans for the future?: Get a medical degree or two, maybe three, take up the family business!
Personality (IC)
What do you feel are your greatest strengths: I'm tenacious! Or annoying depending on your point of view! I know being a little brother best so I kind of default to that when people get tense or awkward?
What are your greatest flaws: I'm hissy? I HAVE NEVER BITTEN ANYONE I SWEAR but sometimes I seem to convey the fact I will? I can be a bit distractable when I get too cold, I'm not a proper snake, no torpor or death, but I get cranky? I don't honestly think I've pointed at anything in my life as a true flaw I need to fix?
How do you treat others: I try for genial and cheerful in most cases, tends to put people at ease, but if there's injury or bleeding I can get fussy and that can freak people out?
What do you look for in friends: A willingness to hang out and watch stupid movies or play games at stupid hours? I get along with most to one degree or another so that's my main criteria, though the 'being able to be publicly a snake' might be nice?
How do you handle confrontation: Stillness, hissing, really heavy debate about whether wrapping a tail around someone is as good an idea as it seems?
What is a day off like for you: I'm a pre-med student so I do a LOT of studying even on my days off? Vegetarian light morning meal, hot shower, probably hanging out in common rooms or libraries? Lunch tends to be as I remember, another hot shower or bath, curling up with movies and books, protein heavy and hot dinner tends to knock me out to sleep within an hour or so?
Addictions: Russian Dwarf Hamsters. They're just so...twitchy. In all the best ways? And crunchy! I am NOT allowed in pet shops anymore and I will NOT have a cage on campus but I really hope my dorm mates don't have rodents?
Are you a leader type, explain: I can take lead in medical emergencies! I do not know enough about most other emergency types to try though, that'd be stupid and LEAD to injuries probably!
Are you curious or cautious, explain: Curious, hands down! It's a lot more interesting?
School (IC)
Major: Medical
Financial Assistance: Nope I'm good!
Are you going home for the holidays: Absolutely, unless they come to Germany to vacation for a bit!
Any objects of Power you need faculty to be aware of/store: My pearl. During high stress periods it may need to be stored because if I end up stress cuddling someone it should not be gifted away?
Any powers faculty need to handle: As long as public snake is okay, no?
Pets or familiars you need to house: My sister gave me a one of those window, solar powered dancing sunflower things, I call it Richard.
Powers (IC)
Abilities: Naga racial abilities (see below for in depth).
Are these hereditary: Yes! In cases of mixed marriages there is generally a 75% chance of naga children, and both of us children are naga.
Snake body: Nagas of my type do not have a 'family' snake type, we can be born any type of snake out there. We grow our entire lives, and up to about two hundred years old can hold human legs with varying degrees of difficulty. Currently my coils are about twenty five feet long, and I can hold legs for hours at need. When shifted though my skin darkens and I losing all forms of facial or lower body hair (which really annoys me), banding and scaling goes to mid waist, and then starts again from the elbows down when shifted. I has retractable fangs and can unhinge my jaw in this form, as well as slit-pupiled eyes. Once I lose my leg ability I'll start growing a hood as my snake type is King Cobra and will likely lose the rest of my hair (not cool).
Healing touch: Nagas as a race can push power into wounds to aid bodies in healing. Mine is a bit more directed than most though given my major and practice.
Healing blood/bone: Nagas of my type have been hunted in centuries past and harvested for healing elixirs; blood and ground bone can be as potent as directed healing as well as cure most poisons. I PREFER NOT TO BLEED ON PEOPLE AND KEEP MY BONES PLEASE.
Poison Resistance: Most nagas are immune to common venoms, and scales/shed skin can be used to house venom safely without dissolving.
Limited Immortality: Nagas do not age conventionally, we can, in theory, live forever, though we can be killed. The longer lived the longer tails grow, most truly elder naga live in seclusion or in temples aware of their species, those like my mom who work in the wider world have some heavy illusion charms purchased from those who can make them when appearing in public.
PEARL: Perhaps the most powerful, and most vulnerable aspect of a naga is our pearls. This gem grows naturally in each naga and usually is held in a hand when born. This stone can share a naga's healing and near immortality with another, or utterly destroy a naga if damaged. Usually, in good cases, a pearl is given to a life mate (my dad has mom's pearl actually in his shoulder in an old bullet wound). In less healthy cases a naga can be enslaved through holding or command of their pearl, tainted or twisted through corruption of their pearl, and the like. All the fun nightmare stories really, all of them!
Do you know how to use these abilities: The basics yes! I'm working on refining my healing abilities through education and practice?
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: I run toward screaming if that's any indicator? People could be hurt!
Powers (OOC)
Abilities: See above, Dip had the full primer growing up and that is the listing in it's entirety!
Do you know how to use these abilities: He has little to no experience using his naga form fully on a day to day basis, much less his poison, he doesn't like to think of himself as aggressive so hasn't worked to train his body to BE aggressive. The downside of this being his IS an aggressive and protective snake and instinct can and will overrule him. AS far as healing, he's better than a dabbler, less than a proper doctor naga currently.
Are you a hero or have a Fated Destiny: He has some heroic instincts, but they are all along the lines of Doctors Without Borders and the like, HELP BECAUSE YOU CAN not because you can go fight a dragon? He can and will go into places sane people won't to help with plague, or war atrocities, etc.
What are your hopes for your character: I hope for him to adjust to a life NOT with his family all the time, eventually he will be mostly out on his own and he's VERY family oriented currently. It bleeds over into his friendships and they're likely to be surrogates when he gets homesick.
